Webelos den to patrol

Several years ago, my pack started using names for second year Webelos dens.
Historically, a Wolf den was formed of new boys and they carried their
number through Bear and first year Webelos. Each spring at our "graduation"
ceremony, the graduating first year Webelos presented their new den flag and
announced their den name. (We chose to retain the den designation rather than
patrol). "Patrol" medalions replaced the den number strip. The bears then
became first year Webelos (with their same den number). The wolves became
bears (also with their same den number). The tigers became wolf dens using
the numbers that had now been released by the transition of the first year
Webelos to names.
Frequently, when the named second year Webelos den received their AOL the
following March, and moved to a Scout troop, they often carried over the
den name to be the patrol name for their new scout patrol. BTW, dens were
not allowed to select a den name that was in use in our "sister" troop.
The selection of the name became part of the transition process and worked
well for us. Some leaders promoted the idea of naming all dens but I stood
my ground for numbers and got strong support from the committee.
