Here in Burlington, North Carolina, in the heart of the "Bible Belt", the
Boy Scouts are forbidden to distribute membership applications in
classrooms. There also used to be assemblies the day of School Night for
Scouting, but this also was recently stopped. No packs or troops are
sponsored by public school related organizations. Effectively Scouting has
been thrown out of the schools.
It is ironic that the man who has the power to changes, and in fact is
responsible for some of this, is the father of an Eagle Scout! His son is
also a Vigil Honor member of our OA lodge and has held several chapter and
lodge positions as well as spending several summers on camp stafff.
