Let them be offended??

Hi -- I am a new Cub Scout Den Leader, and so far I am enjoying every minute
of it. I have been lurking on this list for a while, and have been dismayed
by some of the discussion.
I understand that some topics have become very divisive in the past, and,
while maybe they do not need to be avoided altogether, they probably should
be treated with sensitivity and fairness.
But, that is not what I am seeing on this list at times. Instead, I have seen
some people "stating the law" as if there could not be any other correct
conclusion. And now, I see someone say "Merry Christmas, and if someone wants
to be offended by that, let them..." There has been a lot of joking lately
about those who could be offended by remarks, and some of it has been pretty
funny, but only because it is taking it to the extreme, beyond all common
sense. BUT, that does not mean that *you* are always right and *they* are
I believe that we are transferring our beliefs to our children and the Cub
Scouts and Boy Scouts under our care whether we are aware of it or not. I
just wish we could give them a tolerance for others rather than a "to hell
with them, I'm right" attitude.
