all of us, and could provide a lead in to the Rifle of Shotgun Merit Badge.
As a BSA and NRA certified rifle, shotgun, and muzzle loading rifle
I have always taken firearms safety very seriously. While scoutmaster, we
held periodic troop shoots where everyone was introduced to firearms safety
whether they took the MB or not.
I always included a demostration of the power of a .22 on an empty soda can
and compared it with the damage done to a soda can full of water or jello and
explained that that was more realistic than the empty can since the human
body is 90% water.
I concluded the demonstration by shooting a soda can full of water with a
rifle to emphasize to them that pellet guns and BB guns can be almost as
dangerous as a .22. ( If you wish to repeat this demonstration for your
I recommend a single pull high power pellet gun such as the Beeman R-1 loaded
with a hollow point hunting pellet for maximum effect.)
It now appears that I need to add a paintball gun to my demonstrations.
this incident, I had not considered them to be a problem, probably because
they are not a big item around here.
