To Thomas Granvold
Thomas asks why Troops continue to keep their Scouts who are away at school
or in the military registered.
I think for the most part it is to honor the Scouts a little, especially if
they are Eagle Scouts. It keeps the link with them intact, many or most will
still help out with the Troop when they are home from school and in the
summer, it insures that they will still receive the Scouting Magizine and
newsletters from the Troop. It keeps their years of continueus service
intact as far as receiving vetern honors later in life. In many cases, the
parents will pay the dues so that it does not cost the Troop anything to
keep the kid on the charter.
