No shortage of imagination in the lads on this side of the pond! We use
the same image taken from a graphic in our Troop newsletter above a column
noting important dates. Some of the Scouts think it symbolizes looking
from youth to the future with dreams, some think the Scout is practicing
stalking, some thing the fellow is watching to see what the boat is up to
like a detective. I've seen Scouts here on a hike pretend to be back in
an earlier time in history hiking at Gettysburg with a guide in civil war
uniform and others on a regular hike pretend part of the way to be evading
the Gestapo in their imagined alpine forest on the way to Switzerland with
lookouts on point, and still others pretending to be performing long range
recon deep in enemy territory. Others have fantasized "Mortal Kombat"
while battling with padded sticks on a rolling log. One kid fresh from a
webelos archery range told me that it was better'n Mario Brothers - neater
sound effects; ziiiippppp thwaackk! Don't give up to quickly. Its there,
you may just not have seen it yet.
