I have seen several ways of distributing funds.
In one troop, everyone who put in 10 hours (from family--5 boy, 5 parent
or any combination) got a share of scout's summer camp fee paid.
In another, proceeds from fund raisers were divided among participants on
the basis of the number of hours they put in. Parents could either put
their share in their son's (or sons') account or into a general troop account.
In a third, the unit did piece-work type things and scouts received a share
based on the number of units they completed. Sometimes scouts worked in
teams and split the proceeds.
Most of the time, scouts got only a portion of the total. i.e., 50% of the
total went to the troop's general fund, 50% was divided among scouts.
Also, when I was a scout we had a savings plan for summer camp. It was a
punch card (troop treasurer had a duplicate). Each punch was worth a quarter
We could bring money any meeting and get our card and treasurer's punched.
When it came time to pay my summer camp fee, I had saved the entire $13.50
for a full week of camp.
In the latter case, if you left the troop, you got the money. In all of the
other cases, money would be transferred to another troop if a scout
transferred. If they dropped out of scouting, money reverted to the troop's
