Hello everyone out in the big wide world of Scouting!
My name is Margaret Yam and I subscribed to this list a number of weeks ago,
but (oops! ) I lost the bits of paper telling me how to send a message.
I am a scouter in Tasmania, which is (way) down under in the land of Oz (ie:
Australia). I have only been involved in Scouting for a couple of years,
ever since my husband Stephen Yam roped me into helping him out. Currently
we run a Venturer scout unit (for 14 to 18 year olds) in Launceston. Prior
to this we ran a unit near Hobart. BTW (by the way) one of my "old"
venturers is also on the list and he was the one who told me how to get on
it - hello Andrew Stevenson!!
Our unit stands at around 13 members, one female and the rest male. At the
moment things are pretty quiet because of upcoming final exams for many of
them. For example tomorrow night we may just have a few fun games or a game
of grid iron outside. After exams we are planning an Environment Camp where
we will help a park ranger on various projects. Also we hope to do some
overnight hikes over the summer holidays (yes, that's over Christmas for us
in the Southern Hemisphere).
If you want to know anything else just ask (and be patient - I type pretty
slow and don't get time to reply everyday). I have enjoyed reading all the
mail so far, keep it up. Canada: don't go away to your own list I'd like to
hear from you sometimes too.
Bye for now
