Secondly, you probably guessed this, they are not =
>scouts, and even the concept of scouting is foreign to them.
Actually, Scouting does exist in Uganda. In fact there is a program called
Unite that is a joint effort between United Kingdom Scouting and UNICEF to
strengthen the Scouting movement in Uganda and to teach the UK Scouts about
life (and Scouting) in a less fortunate country.
How do I know this??? When I was in London last February, I stopped in at a
Scouting supply shop and amoung other things I purchased a couple of books
on the Unite program. It looks like a great program for all concerned. So
great that I sent a nasty-gram to the folks in Irving, TX, blasting them for
not having something like it here in the USA. The International Affairs
office in Irving sent me a nice letter stating that they had never heard of
the Unite program and that they actually have very little detailed
information about Scouting in other countries. In an attempt to do
something positive (rather than just complain), I have joind the Nations
Capital Area Council's International Committee to try and get something new
and improved going here.
