Subject descriptors (WAS: Re: Hello)

Mine was a reply, actually, to the original message(s) talking about
the Canadian Scouting list. However...Laura has a great idea and
LISTSERV supports it in a limited way. (I'll talk to Jon Eidson
privately about this so as not to take up list bandwidth.:)
In any case, it does not take much to add descriptive information
to your subject line. TAN: for TANgent is one helpful descriptor.
USA: would be good, CAN:, GB:, RECIPE:, etc., etc.--the possibilities
are endless. What is possibly the worst thing about subject lines,
however, is when the thread changes but the subject line does not.
(As you see, I've changed the subject line to reflect what I'm
talking about...and yes, I know, not everyone can do that.)
If we were to adopt a convention like the above, it would make it
much simpler for those of us who don't have time to read every
message and may not be interested in everything that comes through
in the first place. But remember, the system only works if you
use it. The same would be true if Jon set up Topics= in LISTSERV.
(but still living in Indy and soon moving to Silver Spring MD...God I love
