With regard to your questions concerning the appointment to be district
camp promotions chair, I would urge you to take it if your personal life
allows it. In The George Washington District we have usually tried to tie
the Chair of Camp Promotions to one of the adult advisors in the OA. This
allows for maximum communication and coordination between the two groups.
The Camp Promotion chair coordinates the presentations to troops on
camping. Use of boys from the OA are vary helpful here. The Chair also
maintains records regarding the number of units attending camp. The Chair
needs to contact unit leaders for those units that attend camps other than
the Council's Camp to get their attendance figures.
One program that the Committee did a few years ago that I thought was
useful was to give an award called the "Green Tent" award that recognized
units for successful short term camping. This encouraged units to have
campouts all year round.
In our district this position is one that is usually sought rather than
one that the Vice Chair of Program needs to seek out a person to appoint.
Yours in Scouting, Bob Sargeant, DC for GW District, NCAC, BSA. The old fox.
Opinions are mine in the scouting spirit.
