The practical course for Boy Scout Wood Badge course SR-81 is over as of
last night. I'm glad I did go ahead and do it, despite the strain of
having 3 out of 5 weekends of October taken over (plus the weekend I
spent on our troop's campout). "Only an hour a week," right!
The experience certainly peaked over the three weekends, as our patrol,
the "Hootin' Tootin' Owls," came together more and more. For me, the
climax of the weekend came yesterday (Sunday) morning when our patrol
returned early from our overnight hike. We came back into the main camp
area at 7:00 AM singing our patrol song at the top of our lungs. The
staff were just getting ready for breakfast at that point, so we had a
We all had time for showers and shaves (The Senior Patrol Leader *said*
he wanted us all to be clean that day!) and "greeted" all the other
patrols as they arrived.
I'm glad it's over, but sad, too. We sure stuffed a lot of learning
into three weekends, and it's going to take a while to master and apply
it. So now, I'll get on with that, as I work my ticket (if I can).
