If you all don't hate me after my rather blunt, and potentially misunder-
stood, posts earlier this evening, anI have a situation I would like your
comments on. This has also been posted on Arrow-l.
Today I got a phone call from our District Chairman (well, actually a phone
message ) inquiring whether I would be willing to serve as Camping
Promotions Chairman for the District. This is obviously a good fit since I
am already Chapter Adviser and we all know the OA is supposed to promote
This follows up an earlier discussion I had with our (now former) District
I am inclined to say yes, with one reservation. My job situation currently
is quite tenuous and I fully expect I will be out of work by Christmas.
Don't worry, the severance package will give me about six months pay should
it happen before the end of the year and I have prospects to set up my own
actuarial consulting business. If I agree to take this responsibility, I
will inform him of this situation and tell him to have a backup should I get
a new job (which _will_ be out of state due to my profession).
I also hesitate a bit due to the fear of the politicking I might be exposed
to. I have seen more of this than I want now that I am chapter adviser and
am not sure this is what I want to deal with.
Now my question to you all: In your Lodges/Councils/Districts do the
Lodge/Chapter advisers formally serve on the Camping Promotions or similar
committees? Do these advisers chair the committees? And lastly, what am I
