Many people think that too much has been said about this topic. The people
world wide dont want to hear about it. They are entitled to their opinion.
Many of us here in the US do want to talk about things like that.
We talk about them at roundtables, around the coffee pot at OA functions,
etc. Paul chose another avenue to talk...This forum. Aparently, he is
now being persecuted for doing that. He might loose his job. Can anyone
be PROUD of causing another person to loose his job because of Scouting.
Being fined for "misusing" state funds.. What a laugh... Fine and fire
Many of us on
the list have access to the internet via work.. (I do) I also do some
Scouting things at work... Is that wrong, Carey? My company (a large
Utility company) gives big to United Way, sponsors an Explorer post here
in New Orleans and heaven knows what across the 4 state area we serve.
(Notice the boy's project supported by a power company....)
Small bureaucratic minds who only see black and white plus a vindictive
parent cause problems.
The root of the original problem...the parent.... (Forget the boy, he acted
on the parent's advice...) Who is in charge of the Troop, Carey...??
Not the X-Scoutmaster/parent. The appearance is that the parents intervened
at every turn. (Who set up the project.. Did the boy make the contacts with
the power company?? or did the parents??) (I don't know.. you may.. Paul
may... Certainly the boy and the dad do...) (If the dad or mom did, then
the project was their's not the boys...)
My son just received his Eagle.. (he is 17... he was Life for 3 years...)
(But when he actually set up his project, he made the phone calls, etc.
and some of the materials are still in my garage, he will return them..
not me).... I will bug him, but he will do it..
On the order of signatures... If the boy hadn't been son-of-former-SM, (just
some boy who's parent wasn't involved in Scouting) would you have signed it....
Both you and the parent took away Paul's right to lead the Troop and deal with
I've said enough.. Sorry for the flame.....
