From my limited observation of the event. . . .
A miniture "hot" air style baloon was contructed from a TOY baloon
with strings or yarn attached to a paper cup gondola at the bottom.
The baloons could contain helium if desired, and you could use any
balloon of your choice, to include MYLAR (metalic) type. Baloons
coould be decarated etc. The one major and important rule was
that the baloon had to have a slight positive total weight!!
That was tested before each race, by making sure the ballon
with cup attached, would stay on the starters table. Helimum
could be used, to make the baloons lite, but the still had
to have a positive weight, so as not to float away. Race was
run in doors, to avoide potential WIND or weather porblems.
Each cub had a straw, like used for the "boat" or rain gutter races.
On the GO, each cub used his straw to blow the baloon UP and out.
They raced 3 at a time, accross the room, arround another table,
and back to accross the start line. Each cub was timed, and the
fastest times raced in a finals etc. The "winner" raced and
BEAT the cubmaster at the end.
I hope that helps. . . If you need more information, I can try
to get details from the pack the ran the race. Unless anyone
else out there has run the race.
