We have been required to get fingerprinted/have a background check to
work at a Girl Scout (GSUSA) resident camp since...oh, 1989 at the
camp I worked at. The first time the council had someone come in to
do the fingerprinting, and the fees for background checks came out of
the camp budget. The next year, everyone was required to get their
own background check done, because so many people lived in different
states and stuff that they wanted everyone to get a check done in the
area of their permanent residence. I went to the local police and
got it done for $10 or 15, I think. It was good for two years, so
I didn't have to get it done every time. The price varies, but unless
you are required to go directly through the FBI, it really doesn't take
a lot of time or money.
