Further to Mike Tester's posting this is a note about INTERLINK 94 held
jointly by The Scout Association (UK) Surrey County Scout Council and BSA
Transatlantic Council , Mayflower Area (UK) . The event was held at
Walton Firs Scout Campsite this weekend. We were fortunate in having good
weather for this time of the year, cool but sunny by day , cold and misty
at night. Some 900 Scouts attended. The event opened with the raising of
colors and the two national anthems , followed by welcomes from the
County Commissioner for Surrey and the DE for Channel District. Scouts
were then addressed by the Lord Lietenant of Surrey , the Queen's
personal reprentative for the county.
Troop were divided into patrols of British and American Scouts and took
part in typical camporee activities - rapelling , archery , shooting ,
sports contests , knotting , etc. The events were non-competitive , the
idea being that each patrol should participate in as many asctivities as
Twelve Scouts from T401 camped with 7th Leatherhead. We decided that we
would form one troop, and went to the Colors ceremony with our two
national flags and the World Scout Flag in place of our respective troop
flags. There are already plans for further join activities between our
troops, with the 7th being invited to the BSA Merit Badge Lock-in and our
Scouts invited to a Patrol Leader training course. Joint camping trips
are also on the cards.
Two of the participants are on the 'Net and hopefully will give their
comments as well. All the BSA participants completed the requirement for
the International Participation award , and the British Scouts passed the
International Scouting requirements of various awards.
It was great fun , and we can't wait until next year ...
