But isn't that in essence what we do when we decide on an "official" troop
Class B uniform for outside events? I've seen plenty of troops (both that
I'm involved with, plus many, many others at camporees) that have designed
their own logo of sorts and had it silkscreened onto T-Shirts which every
member is required to wear for their Class B uniform. A few troops that I
have seen even went further; they had sweatshirts embroidered with their
troop logo (it looked nice, but must have cost a bundle to make!) for
outdoor activies in the fall when it was too cold to wear T-shirts outside.
These appeared to be quite acceptable as Class B uniforms to me (many of
the designs and the like looked quite a bit better than the stuff that
could be purchased through national!).
Now the point: it looks to me like what is being discussed here is whether
or not an Explorer shirt without insignia can be used as a Class B uniform
for outdoor/summer/whatever events. In light of what I have seen with the
various units and their "unofficial" (non-national issue, that is) Class B
uniforming, I would have to say that this should be OK to do, as long as
the entire troop agrees to it and adopts that as the troop's "official"
Class B. However, if you're going to do that, wouldn't a T-shirt or a
sweatshirt with a customized troop logo look nicer (and in some cases,
actually cost less....)?
