Now I've heard it all!!
We recently had one scout, whose father is an SM in another troop, complete
the requirements for his Eagle. Actually this was last June.
Unbeknownst to me at the time, the committee chair signed his application
and he passed his BoR. He now awaits approval from National. He is arguing
with his dad over what sort of ceremony to have -- Dad wants a big shindig,
some just wants the medal -- but that's another story. What the boy really
wanted, he already has.
Dad promised him a car if he completed his Eagle before last summer. He now
has a new car. When I talked to him and told him the troop committee
wouldn't meet again until Fall, he was upset - since he would then need the
Family Life MB and lose out on the car. He (apparently and seemingly
improperly) got around that, see above. The boy is very pleased with his
As a matter of principal I will not participate in any ceremony Dad has for
the awarding of his Eagle. I'll let you guess to whom the pronoun
applies.*g* But again, there's another story lurking behind the scenes.
The other lulu I heard at the committee meeting deals with another marginal
Eagle candidate. He did a project -- all completed according to rules and
had all the merit badges he needed. However he apparently has never had his
board of review and turns 18 soon. Since he has not earned the Family Life
MB (and has less than 90 days till his B-day), he will not get Eagle. He
comes from a rough family, but again, that's another story.
Now for the lulu -- Dad said that he couldn't _drop out of school_ until he
got his Eagle!! I guess now he'll have to finish High School!
Times like this, I'm totally perplexed!
Sorry to be so negative lately. Honestly, I am not always like this!
