Hello Fellow Scouters,
Well, Tonight is the BIG night for my troop. After 4
years of trying I have convinced the Adult Leaders that we need to give
the troop back to the scouts. We are holding the very first election
of a Senior Patrol Leader in over four years!
I am really hoping that this will go well. My head is on the
platter already but I have every confidence in the Scouts. After last
weeks meeting when I announced the Nomination/Election for this week,
the political posturing had started by the end of the meeting. Some
of these boys already understand what they need to do. I just hope
they understand the impact of being an SPL.
This evevning I will once again read to them from the Scoutmaster's
handbook the duties and responsibilities of a SPL. Some of these kids really
had NO idea what the job entails. I have a hard road to travel. Thankfully
there have been alot of great posts on this subject lately. We ahve a
couple of Scouters that still believe that they should have total charge
of all meetings and outings. I'd just like to see some of the work spread
around so that no one person has the motherload of burden.
I'd like to thank all of the great sources of wisdom out here on the
newsgroup. It has been a great source of information and a source of
personal encouragement to me. Just last week I sat down and wrote my
resignation letter to the troop committee. Just that was enough for me
to review my commitment to the troop and my personal convictions as a Scout
and as an Eagle Scout.
