I am a new subscriber to SCOUTS-L, and a new user of
I am a Scout Leader (SM to BSA people) with 2nd Orange Scout Group.
Orange is a rural city of about 35,000 people, situated about
200 km (120 miles) west of Sydney, Australia.
There are four Scout Groups in Orange, as well as Guides. My Troop
has 15 Scouts, all boys, although girls are allowed to join if
they wish (we hope to get three girls from Cubs next month). Eight
of the Troop, (including me) will be attending the 15th Asia Pacific -
17th Australian Jamboree in Perth in December-January, along with
another 12 from Orange and 3,500 from New South Wales (State).
I am married, with three kids; one Scout, one Guide and a Brownie.
My interests are many and varied, including bushcraft, pioneering,
hiking, camp cooking, campfires and computers (you guessed it).
In the real world, I work for the State Department of Agriculture
in the field of clean agriculture and pesticide residues.
I would really like to get my Scouts communicating with Scouts
overseas, at least for a short time. Email seems like a good
idea, but is there something like SCOUTS-L for the youth themselves?
They would have to use my access, or another to which the troop
has access, so it could not be a permanant link.
