When I was a scout, not that long ago, we had a campout similiar to this.
Instead of a camp that only star and above could attend, it was open to all
those that were on the trail. One year before the camp, every boy started
to be tracked. We wrote down where we were and where we should be in a year.
If we achieved the goal, we went on the camp (a 50 mile hike in the beautiful
mountains of Montana).
It was a great motivator. I don't know of anyone in the troop that did not
go, and it helped a lot of boys achieve eagle that were ready but just not
finishing the merit badges very fast.
