The issue is not that LDS cannot mix with kids of other religions, etc. But
rather, the BSA program is used as part of their church youth program. I have
many kids of different faiths in my troop as well. However, most would be
offended if I taught a specific religious belief over others. This practice,
however, is accepted and encouraged in our church youth group (which is not
scouting related: non-LDS church). It is difficult for many non-LDS scouters
to understand the LDS program because we see Scouting as a public activity, not
a religious one. But always remember that BSA is not a public institution. It
is a program "for sale" to any sponsor to use as they see fit, as long as they
do not violate BSA policy/rules.
