Bill Blair's comments showed a slow turn-over in his troop when the scouts
seemed to be ready and knew what a patrol was and suppose to do. My "cold
turkey" approach has not taken them by surprise. We have been working on this
transition for about 3 1/2 years now (my time as SM). I finally decided that
I couldn't keep going the same way I was. And, since all the older scouts
had graduated (turned 18 and went to college) that I started with, I decided
that now was the right time.
Yesterday I was talking with the SPL about some up coming events. His mom
was there and said, "They elected you to what? What does this mean?" I
think mom will remind him about his duties, but it made me chuckle that he
hadn't even mentioned it to his parents yet.
Next week should be the moment of truth. That will be the first activity
totally planed by the PLC and only OK'd by me. So far, they look like
they are taking the bull by the horns.
