I just finished my 4th roundup last night. This is my 2nd year on the roundup
team and 4th year in the pack. (Webeloes leader->Asst Cubmaster->Cubmaster)
Our D.E. does a school "RALLY", usually the day or two before the ROUNDUP.
o At the RALLY, he stimulates the 1st-5th grade boy's interest in scouting,
answers questions, and hands out flyers to be taken home by the boys so they
can bring mom/dad to the ROUNDUP nite... scheduled 1-2 days later.
o At the ROUNDUP, the scouting organization, pack structure, goals of scouting,
etc. is explained, and boys (and some parents) are registered.
The problem with this (4th yr as DE in this district) D.E. is his unbridled
'enthusiasm'. These 6/7/8/9/10 year olds hear just what they want to hear,
then tell mommy/daddy they want to join Cub Scouts so they can.....

Many a youth / parent / scouting relationship has been damaged by this. Some
schools have forbidden him to rally their kids. Others refuse to allow him at
their roundups. After he RALLY'd the school where my pack recrutes, I had a
full evening answering the phone as parents called to find out just what the
scouting program had to offer.
So far, the D.E. has been oblivious to feedback from the district volunteers.
