I've been "digesting" the SCOUTS-L for the past three weeks and have
greatly enjoyed some of the material I've seen here! A fantastic resource
for Scouters! I was amazed at the volume of info (I've been counting about
80K worth of messages per day, on average), but also by the consistently
high quality of the mail. I probably *shouldn't* have been surprised, but
after seeing so many lists where flaming is the norm, SCOUTS-L has been a
refreshing change of pace.
I'm a fairly new ASM with Troop 9, Pioneer District, in Indianapolis. We're
a very old troop, dating back to 1913. We currently have 32 boys on the
roster and seven or eight ASMs. My son joined the troop back in December,
moving up from Webelos. He has really dug into Scouting with both hands --
practically all he talks about, except for Sega-Genesis games! He made
Tenderfoot by Spring Camporee, Second Class at Summer Camp, and he's within
a whisker of getting First Class.
I'm having a good time, too. Much better, actually, than my first time
around in Scouts (I only made Second Class). Amazing what a difference
owning a decent sleeping bag can make!
