Re: Merit Badges

I have been an Eagle coach for three Eagles (not counting my son) and three
candidates who have not yet completed all their requirements, I am now also the
troop advancement coordinator. When we have a scout nearing Eagle I go to the
Council office (which luckily is very handy for me) and pull our troop
advncement file. It has the white copies of the advancement reports (aka the
"Green Sheets"). I screen the merit badges/dates for our candidates before we
turn anything in on their Eagle, then I know what the secretary who does the
"official" screening will be looking at, if there are any discrepancies we can
get the records corrected before it becomes an issue.
We had an Eagle candidate that transferred from another council, I had him
bring in his merit badge cards and we filled out an advancement sheet marked as
"Records Correction" so that they would have the dates available at the
council. We also made a xerox of his merit badge cards and included that as an
attachment to his Eagle packet. I don't know if this made any difference, but
there were no questions about his credentials.
BTW - I mentioned last month that my son was scheduled for his Eagle Board, I
am proud to say he passed, and I will soon be wearing and "Eagle Dad" tie tac.
