A lot depends on the purpose and frequence of back yard camping. We
discussed a back yard campout as a fall baok idea for a patrol
campout. We found a first choice that worked out and was a better
site. One of the families in our has some acreage. We could have
used the back of his property, made cooking fires and had a temporary
out building for our use. We could have seen the house but it would
have been off limits.
If all of your campouts are backyard campouts, there is a problem. If
you have a back yard that suits the purpose of your campout, it can be
a successful campout. As Kathy said the purpose may be to just have
fun, and sleep under canvas or the stars. Or if you have a bigger
yard, there are more options.
However the original message indicated
the purpose was to compensate for a lack of planning by the troop.
That isn't an acceptable purpose if it happens on a regular basis.
