I am new to this service and thought a brief intro was appropriate
.....and then I'll I ask for help.
I am the Troop Scouter and Patrol Counsellor for a NEW/RESTART-UP Troop
(ours folded 2 years ago) of 7 youth. We are the 21st South Surrey Troop
in South Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. We are just south of
Vancouver and almost at the US boarder. The 49th parallel passes through
the waters of our shore.
I was in cubs and scouts as a boy growing up in Metuchen, NJ, USA and
came back to the movement 3 years ago when my oldest son joined Cubs
here. I cooked for a year, was a Cub leader for 2 and will now go on to
Scouts while also helping out occasionally with Cubs (my youngest just
moved up from Beavers).
I am a 44 year old divorced male. My background is in Hotel Management
and I am currently providing independent consulting to hotel owners,
lenders and managers.
ANY IDEAS TO HELP ME START UP A NEW TROOP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
I am particularly concerned with some of the structural issues like:
Selection or Election of the patrol leader and assistant patrol leader;
having an effective court of honour with only one patrol; the
benefits/drawbacks of sharing opportunities with a similar restart-up
troop without giving up our identity or merging; and funding raising.
I am using Scouts-L at this point and also get rec.scouting, Fidonet
Scouter and Scouting through my local BBS, all on an E-mail basis. I do
not have interactive Internet service yet.
Any ideas and (how to's ) on finding helpful files regarding skits, fund
raising, and year one programing would be appreciated.
