To Richard Ickler
Richard, if you don't have a good Commissioner group already in place, it is
very likely to late to expect help from that direction even if they started
today to build the Commissioner staff. However, the very best Commissioner
will very likely not go to the different Cub Packs and try to recruit kids
for you, it is difficult for a Commissioner to speak for a Scoutmaster to
describe his program and all that his unit has to offer.
You can obtain the Cub Pack locations and meeting times, leader names and
etc from you District Exec. Visit the Cub Scout Roundtable and offer the
services of your Scouts as Den Chiefs to the Cub Packs, invite the Cub
leaders to bring their dens to your Troop for a visit, offer to take the
Webelos Dens camping and to go camping with your Troop.
When a Webelos group visits your Troop make sure that there are activities
going on that the Webelos can join in and take part and have fun. Have extra
copies of your Troop calandar available to hand out to the visiting leaders
and Webelos, point out all of the exciting and fun things that are planned
for the next year. Make efforts to recruit the Webelos Den Leaders into the
staff of your Troop, in most cases a high percentage of the kids in a
Webelos Den will follow into the same Troop that the den leader goes into.
Good luck, Olan Watkins
