Well I'am Back

Well I'm back from Germany (just about in one piece), I have been back on
Scouts-l for a few days now but this is the first chance I have had to mail
anything back up to the list. It looks as though things have been quite
busy whilst I have been away (still trying to catch up with the back log).
If anyone sent mail to me direct between 22 july and 8 aug, could you
resend it please. There was a major power failure in the machine room
whilst I was away, and yes that's right, the only mail servers that failed to
recover where our own (more or less total hard disk failures on both
machines - if your going to do a job........).
I kept a camp diary whilst we were away, which I am currently typing up
(once it's completed I will post a copy up to the list).
One night several of the leaders where talking about where we had been
camping, where we would like to go camping etc, and like a fool I said one
of my ambitions was to visit the USA with a Scout Troop. Several of
the others said "if you do manage to arrange something please let us know"
(as did several of the Scouts).
My thoughts at this time are:-
Arrange the trip for sometime in 1997 (to allow time for fund raising)
Spend one week hiking etc at Philmont (activity suggestions please)
Spend one week on home visit/joint camp with a BSA troop
(With a return exchange camp in 1998 in the UK)
Spend one week site seeing (all the usual tourist traps)
If anyone would like to be involved with part two (or has any suggestions
for parts 1 & 3) please email me direct on firstname.lastname@example.org . Please
bear in mind that whilst in the USA we would prefer to keep the amount
of long distance travel to a minimum.
If this all comes together I will be approaching the group that I went to
Bamberg with first. This consists of a mixed group of 20 Scouts (boys &
girls - most currently aged 13), 4 Venture Scouts (male - most currently aged
15/16) & 7 Scouters (male & female) from 3 groups based in Milton Keynes,
Bedford & Kempston. I would anticipate that even if all of the above drop
out final numbers would be of a similar break down.
