Boy Scouts have a problem with uniforms also. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts
through about the 6 th grade in school, don't seem to mide being seen in a
Scout uniform. However, about the 7th grade, it seems that all at once it
becomes "uncool" to be known as a Scout.
Most of the time when they are in a group, there is no problem, I guess that
is because they have a support group there with them, but a lot of kids will
bring their uniform to the meeting with them in a plain bag and change into
the uniform after they arrive at the meeting. They will almost never wear
the uniform to school, or to go to the store or things like that where thay
are out alone.
I had a 17 year old Senior Patrol Leader one time, he was an Eagle Scout and
an excellent Scout and leader and did a super job as the SPL. However, he
had a girl friend and he did not want the girl to know that he was a Scout.
I sometimes wondered if she might be a Girl Scout and was hiding that from
him also, or if they had some very basic differences in their value systems.
