HELP! I need input!

I've been asked to take over as SM for our troop at the end of this summer.
My scout experience to date has been in the Cub Scouting program,
as Den Leader from Tigers thru Webelos, along with committee work. The troop
has had a busy summer, with 16 boys at camp, 8 to Philmont, and 12 that went
to South Texas on a Scuba Diving trip. The current SM is resigning in hopes of
starting a Sea Scout, Explorer's, or Civil Air Patrol program with the older
boys. This is in hopes of keeping them active in a program. (The boy's like the
idea of co-ed Explorer's the best! Who would have guessed?)
Before I commit to this awesome task, I need to get a rough idea of the amount
of time I'm committing myself and my wife (cause if I'm off scouting, she does
double duty) to. Here's my questions:
1) How much time is required for training? I need to get educated
2) How much time (roughly) is required/month. The troop meets every
Monday, except following a campout. And tries to camp or weekend
activity at least once a month. The boys set the schedule.
