Well, I used to say, ' I do this because it's FUN! '
and rain or shine, I used to say, ' IF I am there (here) I AM having
fun! '. I learned from my Dad, who was a, youth pre BSA, and whom you
could have called him a mountain main, except he had a PHD from MIT.
You can have FUN, in the rain, the snow the MUD etc., as long as
you are 1) pre-pared and 2) want to have FUN!
I still have FUN, by definition, HOWEVER, when your son gets Eagle,
or a scout from your troop gets the National Life Saving award, or
you (note that I shared) get a note from a scout that just earned his
Eagle, who was in your CUB pack, and wanted to let me know. . .
Well . . . maybe the FUN part isn't the most important after all :)
I have on my desk a card that reads . . ." 100 years from now,
it will not matter what was in my bank account, or what kind of
car I drove (etc), But the world may be better because I was
important in the life of a boy." (short form)
I still have FUN! It is my first rule, I wish these kids would
stop reminding me that I am old, and have maybe taught them some
important lessons, while I was busy having MY fun. :) But what more
joy (FUN) can there be in your heart, than when you KNOW that you
have helped to build a better future, and when the young MAN takes
time to say thank YOU! Not many do, often you just have to watch them
grow, and accept that as thanks. Maybe some day, my own KIDS will
remember to say thanks as well. ;) It makes at the bad times worth while!
Hey, this is getting too serious. Back more FUN stuff.
