Bob is taking cooking merit badge class because his best buddy Jim is
taking it even tho Bob already has the cooking merit badge?
Here is a simple solution, tell the boys that they may not take a class
they have already earned a badge in because you need the openings in the
class to be available for the guys who actually need to earn the badge.
Do you review their proposed schedules before you forward them to the
camp to be assigned? This is the time to catch anything like this and
redirect him to his own advancement needs. Talk to the patrol leader and
senior patrol leader also because Bob's advancement is not only Bob's
responsibility it is also part of the boy leaders responsibility to keep
up on the progress of their patrol members. Advancement reports should be
one of the agenda items for the monthly PLCs, if they have not been, see
that the SPL puts it on the agenda for the next one. Had they been
staying on top of this stuff, Bob would not have been waiting for a year
to ask for a BOR. BTW, don't worry over much about Bob following Jim
around all the time, sooner or later one of them will find a girlfriend and
either Bob will lose interest in following Jim around or Jim will lose
interest in letting himself be followed.
