I'e seen this done and it can work well -- banners hanging from trees, etc.
Try to find one of those 'portable podiums' for sound.... many groups,
churches, etc should have one you could borrow, or most rental places have
them for a few bucks/day. They work for not too large groups and don't
overwhelm the neighborhood. They can be battery operated and have an
enclosed speaker, a snap to set up, transport, etc.
