I just got back from Camp Kunatah at Ten Mile River Scout Camp (Greater
New York Councils) where they have just seperated the boys' shower into
under-14, and 14,15,16,17.
They did this because under New York State laws, there is a difference
in the definition of abuse crimes when the offender is over 14.
Fortunately the showerhouse had 2 seperate areas for the boys (as well
as another area for the 18 and over's).
At the YPP meeting I was at where they explained this (a NYC assistant
D.A. was the leader) I was unable to get a straight answer to the
If I am a member of the local "Y" and I happen to be in the shower room
and some kids come in to shower, I guess that's OK. Now if the kids are
in my troop, is that OK?
If the next night we have a troop swin at the same "Y", YPP says I
can't be in the shower room. But any non-troop related adult can,
right? So what's the difference? Maybe we won't swim anymore.
Just thought you'd like to know about the over/under 14 shower split.
