You mention that it's sometimes easy to get parents and sometimes it
isn't easy. I saw the same thing in Cub Scouts. The year my son
started Sharon got about half way though her speach when she had all
the positions filled. The next year wasn't as easy. She finished her
speach before she got the postions filled. The next year it was like
pulling teeth. Sharon gave a speech, I gave a speech, our DE gave a
speech and we still had to turn some boys away for lack of leaders.
The following year wasn't too bad. This year, I gave a warm up speech
at our Blue and Gold saying we would be need leaders this next year.
Two of the Tiger Cub parents volunteered for what ever we needed on
the spot. Before the boys crossed over this June, we had all our
leaders for next year. (One took over as treasurer in March or April
when the old treasurer's husband went into the hospital and she
retired.) I don't know why some groups of parents volunteer easily
and other parents don't.
