For those who expressed an interst, here are the particulars on the
publications on the subject of Ethics in Action.
All are from the Viking Council, Minneapolis, in conjunction with the
Center for Youth Development and Research at the Univ. of Minnesota,
St. Paul, copyrighted in 1988. The copyright was purchased by the BSA
For Cub Scouts:
DELV Leader's Manual (Developmental Education for Lifetime Values)
An Activity Program for Cub Scouts to Encourage Ethical
Decision Making by Judith B. Erickson, Ph.D.
Sixteen Activity Modules on the following subjects:
-Introduction (overview for adults)
-Be a Friend (what is friendship)
-Be Aware and Care - 1 (physical handicaps, emphasis on blindness)
-Be Aware and Care - 2 (getting to know elderly persons)
-Caring and Sharing (care for own things, respect for other's
-Consumer Alert! (analyse tv commercials and printed ads)
-Differences (attitudes towards diffs in people - e.g. gender,
ethnic background, economic statis, physical appearance)
-Fire!Fire! (responsible use of fire)
-Hard Lessons (simulates learning disabilities - helps understand
-Kindness Counts (responsibility to wild and domestic animals)
-Peace Is (World-wide understanding)
-Saying Hello, Saying Goodbye (friends joining and leaving a
group - friend moving away)
-Saying No! (Personal safegy, drug use, etc.)
-Shoplifting is Just Plain Wrong! (consequences)
-Talking about Nuclear War (how to deal with fears about it)
-What we Say (Name calling and tale telling)
-When Bad Things Happen (AIDS)
Each four page module contains an overview for the leader plus plans
and actions to teach problem solving. Resource lists are also there.
In the program as used in the Pikes Peak Council, there was a patch for
completing six of the modules.
For Boy Scouts there are:

The other resource is the pamphlet Youth's Frontier - Making Ethical
Decisions by John Larson, Ed.D. from the BSA (No. 3620), copyright
1985, which preceeded the others and formed the basis for the Viking
Council's action in developing the others (i guess).
It is great stuff! I am not all together certain it is not available
somewhere, I have just heard that that is so. If anyone knows of a
source, I have friends who envy me my copies and would like to get some.
