}I feel that the parents should participate, however we have a problem in
}our den with parents just showing up sitting down and watching. That is
Fortunately, we never had any adults just hang around. We had a
couple who would stay for a couple minutes and see if we needed an
extra adult that meeting. If we didn't they would leave.
We stressed that is was important that the parents help. Most parents
at least helped with an event or two during the year. We did tell
them there needed to be a minimum level of support. It's hasn't ever
worked to over fill a den. All the boys end up loosing in that case.
We sometimes have den leaders that won't ask for help. We had one
leader pulling her hair out because the asst. wasn't helping while
most of the parents didn't know anything was wrong. When things
finally hit the fan, she took over as asst. and we got an new leader
to volunteer. Everone was much happier.
To summerize, we don't require the parents to help as long as there is
enough, but we stongly encourage it. If you're not getting enough
help ask. It's amazing what's not obvious to the parents. If you
can't get help from the parents, talk to the comittee. They may have
some answer or help you talk to the parents.
