Well, I've got a more complete answer on the issue of the Kodak Photo-CD
(PCD) of graphic images from BSA National for everyone...
There is a series of images supplied by National for promotional use, called
"Stockshots". The first in the set, Stockshots 1: was released as slides, as
was Stockshots 2:. Stockshots 3: was released both as slides and Photo-CD.
The 1st and 2nd are rather older promo images and useful if you have nothing
else to use. Stockshots 3: contains newer images, all manipulated in some
way, most containing text or the Scout logo overlaid on the image. (40
images showing hiking, canoeing, Cubs or Scouts or Explorers doing action
things, sunset and other outdoor shots, etc.)
I called the AV dept. at National, who produced the Photo-CD and talked with
Sandy. She explained that _EVERY_ Council was sent a copy of Stockshots 3:
in Photo-CD format (since probably no-one whould know what it was if
National had only sent an order form)... Soooo everyone should be able to
get a hold of one by contacting their Council SE.
The disc was sent out free and if you can't find the one that wwent to your
Council, the stock number on it is:
No. 6-444 AV-628CD
I commented to Sandy that the images looked a little dated and she explained
that they are working now on a second Photo-CD of images and their
photographers are scheduled to be doing shots for it through September... So
don't expect to see Stockshots 4: until sometime in 1995.
Sandy also said they're trying to get the 2nd PCD fully funded, but if they
don't it should only cost around $10 or $12 to get one.
That's all there is folks... so run down to your Council office and find out
where their Photo-CD disc went, and find someone in your area who has the
right ROM drive on their computer and the right software to make use of it.
(as an alternate choice, if no one in your area has a PCD compatable setup,
you CAN _view_ the disc images on the Phillips or Kodak Photo-CD viewers
designed to hook to your TV sets <g>).
