You're correct: just the accusation of that hideous act never goes away.
Once accused, always guilty--even when the accusation was false. There was
an article in the paper recently about a substitute teacher who was accused
of fondling by a group of 9 and 10 year olds. The first accuser later
admitted to police and others that she had been mad at the teacher and
bribed the other students to say he fondled them as well. The other kids
told police and school officials the same story without contact with the
girl. Since it was obviously a frame up, the school system reinstated him
as a teacher. However, he's yet to be given another assignment.
