In the U.S. you would face the possibility of a civil lawsuit, even if the
accusations are false. Attorney's fees could bankrupt you and the
possibility of a huge award against you is very real, even if acquitted of a

or profession. You _will_ be ostracized from your community and may be
forced to relocate and suffer the financial implications of that.
And then things could become nasty...
That is if the charges are false!
