Recently there was a discusion on either SCOUTS-L or rec.scouting on whether
mixed sex Explorer outings require two or four adult leaders. Here is the
information from the BSA's YOUTH PROTECTION GUIDELINES FOR EXPLORER LEADERS,
page E-7: "Two adults (two-deep leadership) are required for all trips and
outings for Explorer posts. Anytime such an outing is coeducational, an
adult woman must accompany the group. Additional leadership may be required
based on the size of the group, its skill level, anticipated environmental
conditions, and overall degree of challenge."
"Due consideration is given to the requirements of a coeducational program.
This includes adult leadership of both sexes, separated accomodations for male
and females, and adherence to clearly stated behavioral standards."
It would appear from the above that one adult male and one adult female
leader would satisfy YPP requirements for coed Explorer outings.
