New (Basic) Training Courses

ALL of the present "basic" training courses are being re-worked over
the summer, and presented to groups at Philmont's Volunteer Training
Center before being released, Steve. The problem, as all trainers
know, is how to keep the participant's attention AND what information
is considered "cruicial" to the immediate success of the leader or
I don't like it, because if folks will USE AND FOLLOW THE SYALLBUS,
instead of adding their "own variations of the course's syallbus", the
course will be more informative and participants will leave with the
BASICS needed to do a great job. While I only have first-hand
information about Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Exploring, I am
sure that the Cub Scouting basic training courses are done in various
variations on a central theme.
This "slimmed-down" version will also allow for "Council-mandated
information" to be added as well.
Hope that helps....We'll know more after this summer at Philmont!
