Well...over the weekend, I've put together some ideas for a "Internet
Lodge flap" (and a patch which could be worn by those not belonging to
the Order of the Arrow). As soon as I can get access to our scanning
stuff, I'll scan the color design and the black-and-white design and
upload it to the list for those interested.
I've taken Don's computer idea (one computer looks like another, so
logos and memory size wouldn't work), Susan's "Internet" binary
code idea (because of the size of the patch, Susan, it wouldn't work
out...so I've used Morse code, an earlier version of binary "code"
instead) and finally, I've used two words taken from the current
edition of the Order of the Arrow Handbook as the "name" of the
"Lodge" ("Internet" sounds like a club...). You folks can give me
better names than these, I am sure...
Amimi (which in the language of the Delaware tribe,
means "dove"....the "totem" of the "lodge" is a white
dove of universal peace )
Wulanwdee (which in that same language, means "one whom speaks
from the heart"...what I was looking for is something which
describes what we do here; we speak "from our hearts and
with wisdom", but I couldn't find anything that would tie
two together...please help here!)
The patch has the two names on the bottom and "Internet Lodge" on the
top of the round patch. Other than that, there is NO "WWW", and NO
"BSA", because it would NOT be an "official BSA" patch (and so others
from Scouting countries outside the BSA may wear them if they choose
to do so). Only thing is, you will have to explain what the dove is
carrying (an Order of the Arrow sash).
NOW, for the HARD part. Realizing that this will blossom into some
sort of "cottage industry" here in Greenwood, as the "infobahn" takes
off and we start getting inquiries from Scouting groups worldwide,
what should we do with all of this? Mike McDonald suggests (and
admittely, I've been working on a similar-type project but it's been
stalled; there has been four others that have come on here or
Rec.Scouting announcing a new "newsletter for computer Scouters", and
we've only to see Scouters' Digest (which is not really a digest like
Readers' Digest, just an executive summary of what is found in
_Scouting_ or _Boys'_Life_ and (in MY opinion ONLY), not worth the
subscription price!) come out of it.) that we do a newsletter or
some "formal" kind of thing; Jessiann yesterday questioned why have
something formal when all you guys are going to do is to sit around
and talk Scouting and trade patches? (good point...I couldn't argue
with her there...)
So...what's the next step here?
