Big Webelo question

This question really is a big Webelo question. We just got one in our troop.
The boy is beginning Boy Scouts having just crossed over last month. Although
about 5'-3-4 he weighs in at a little over 200 pounds. He attended our Spring
Camporee and I noticed that he had a very hard time just keeping up with the
other boys during normal walking from place to place in camp. We adults
noticed this and have had this potential problem in the back of our minds.
This past weekend, while returning from an overnight, the SPL and another boy
(perhaps SPL one day, good kid) asked about "Joe" and his very apparent
inability to keep up with others. Along the lines of what if we go on a 5 miler
(up hill - both directions it seems) or canoe trips this fall. I discussed
being Scouts we should help our fellow Scouts, perhaps carry some of the load
I am at a loss on how to deal with this situation since we do plan on going to
places where "Joe" physically can't go. Has anyone else had a kid who is just
too obese to participate. I know how hard it can be on a boy growing up heavy
and always being the odd man out, I tend to be a little too short for my own
weight also. I want to start out on the right foot this year and could use
some guidance. Thanks.
