Two weeks ago, in preparation for our then upcoming Cuboree at a
Territorial Park, I wanted our Cubs to take a bear safety course,
since the bears would be awaking just about that time. Unfortunately,
the bear safety instructor from the Department of Renewable Resources
had double booked us, and had to attend at the Active Living Show.
Rather than miss out on this vital course, we all piled into a couple
of parent driven vehicles and went to the show, where the Cubs, somewhat
to my amazement, concentrated on the bear course, rather than the other
good stuff (like golf, kayaking, etc) that they did get to see later.
The result: Cub uniforms visible; we got our pictures in the paper;
we got to pick up the Region's prize for Active Living (another photo
op for the Government's book); and a good time was had by all.
PS: A mother bear and cub did visit our campsite, seen by Akela and
Baloo from another pack, just before our arrival (after a five hour
PPS: Another good PR exercise was inviting all the other campers in the
park to visit our Campfire. (No songs with bathroom humour or other
stuff offensive to parents -- practice helps!!!)
