Hello everyone on the net,
Just recently joined you. My name is Richard Middelkoop. I am a
volunteer worker of the World Scout Bureau in Geneva. For those of
you not familiar with this Bureau, it is the International
Headquarters of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
From its World Bureau, the WOSM distributes information to the
National Offices of all Scout Associations world-wide (about a 120 of
them) and co-ordinates world-wide events.
My personal job is to distribute the information of the Jamboree On
The Air (JOTA). The JOTA is an annual event which attracks around
500,000 participating Scouts and Guides. Reporting back after the
event is also my responsibility.
The list owner, Jon Eidson, has set up a group of files named JOTA.
Within this group I will periodically upload information files about
the JOTA. Those files contain in principle the same info as is being
sent to your National Offices, directly from Geneva. In this way you
all have a direct and quick access to this info, in case you are
To download the info, send the following command to the listserver:
GET JOTA 1CIRC94 SCOUTS-L
You will obtain the first 1994 JOTA information circular, issued in
The same information is also being distributed via packet-radio
bulletin boards in the amateur radio network. Look for JOTA info
addressed to SCOUTS@WW.
For those interested in JOTA, I would appreciate to hear your views on
this. In particular whether you think the info is relevant to you at
all and what (other) things you would like to know.
Please mail to me directly and not to the whole list, as I have
disabled the receive-general-mail option. My email address is:
Alternatively, you may reach me via amateur radio. My packet-bbs is:
