Sue, FWIW, our Troop often uses large gatherings of people for fund raising
activities. We own a Sno-Cone machine and provide cones to the public free of
charge. We do have a "Donation Box" and donations are certainly welcomed and
encouraged - sometimes too actively by the boys :-) We found that we make more
$ this way rather than charge a flat rate.
Sno-Cones are easy with little set up and take down time. Also, there are no
hot surfaces, hot grease or oils to contend with. All that is needed is a
machine (rental?), ice, usually available thru a VFW, American Legion Post or
an Elks Lodge at no cost (they like to have the boys take ice since it keeps
their supply fresh), flavorings which can be made in a short time and cups (a
few bucks gets you a lifetime supply.
When we do the cones we rotate 3 shifts of boys, 1 doing cones, 2 providing
service to the sponsoring organization and 3 on "free time".
Hope this helps, good luck.
